As I continue to photograph historic architecture in America, I also reach beyond its borders to explore the stone and timber structures of Europe including France, Ireland, and England. The historic structures throughout the changing landscape tell us of its varied history. From early Roman invasions, though Medieval times, and into the Renaissance, these structures have survived and witnessed much change. When there I feel surrounded by history. This portfolio of images was shot with black and white infrared film and printed as silver gelatin prints. Hand-tinting my photographs with oils gives me the opportunity to choose my own color palette and add layers of color like the layers of history these structures have witnessed. This combination creates a dreamlike quality of times long passed, held in our memories.
